A bad morning doesn’t necessarily mean a bad day.

But a good morning can go a long way to making a good day.

And if you’re struggling to find a morning routine that makes your morning “good”, what I call the “feel good element” may be what you’ve been looking for.

We’ve all had it…

You’ve all had that morning. The one that starts late or on the wrong foot, and then squirms its way to dismal from there. Everything feels “off”, including, and probably mostly, you.

That kind of morning is tough, especially when you know you have a big day of school, writing, or work ahead of you. It feels like you’re being set up for failure. As a busy student, writer, or employee, you want to eliminate as many of these mornings as possible.

While I can’t guarantee you’ll never have an off morning again, I’m going to share with you the one element of a morning routine that I think makes the most difference in how you feel going into the rest of your day. And really, you can include this element into your morning whether you have an official “morning routine” or not.

This one element helps me to feel ready, emotionally and mentally, for the day. I feel more happy, confident, and ready to tackle my to-do list. Ready to feel that way too?

Alright then….

The “feel good element”

The “feel good element” is the name I’ve given to doing something fulfilling or satisfying first thing in the morning. The confidence and dopamine rush that this gives you set you up for success for your day.

For me, a “feel good element” is something that makes me feel good about myself or that makes me feel like I’m making progress on a goal. It gives me a boost that can carry me on to the next thing.

It can look look like a variety of things:

  • Taking a walk—this helps me to process tension and feel more peaceful
  • Taking a cold shower—this always makes me feel so good about myself!
  • Making progress on an important goal—doing this takes some of the pressure off the rest of the day, I’ve don’t have to work as hard because a big thing is already done
  • Connecting with the Lord—this is always the best way I can start my days and it makes me feel more peaceful and joyful

You can pick your own “feel good element”, and you can even change it up or include several of them in your daily routine.

And in case you were wondering, here’s my current morning routine

  1. Get up + make tea
  2. Drink tea in my garden + read my bible + pray
  3. Have a snack
  4. Have a writing session

I hope that helps anyone who’s been wondering how they can set themselves up for success in the morning. 🙂

Tell me, what’s your current morning routine, or do you tend to do whatever works for each day?

Except for the tea and the snack (usually) that is my exact morning routine too! And, (if we had a garden) I would totally be reading my Bible in it too! 🙂

This is such a fun post 🙂 As my family just moved (literally yesterday), I don’t quite have a system in place! But reading my Bible and spending time with the Lord is definitely one of the first things I do!

That is SO understandable, Leah! And thanks for reading this post even though you’re in the thick of moving. 🩷
